White mulberry fruit is a superfood! Why? It is a great snack and a healthy addition to a balanced daily diet.
Mulberry fruits are rich in nutrients such as fiber, protein, carbohydrates and unsaturated fats. Moreover, white mulberry fruits are a source of many vitamins, including vitamin C, B vitamins and micro and macroelements, including: iron, copper, zinc, manganese, potassium and calcium. We can also find in them exogenous amino acids, i.e. those that the body is not able to produce by itself - methionine, threonine, arginine, leucine.
One cannot forget to mention the antioxidants, very popular nowadays. Those contained in mulberries have been shown to induce cell death and prevent the growth and replication of cancerous cells. Most of this research has centered on the effects of colorectal cancer, but additional research is ongoing for other types of cancer.
Other studies indicates that cyanidine contained in mulberry fruit protects the brain endothelium, preventing its damage and the development of Alzheimer's disease. Mulberries has a tonic effect on kidney and are used as a remedy for urinary incontinence, constipation in the elderly, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia caused by anemia..
Research has found that eating white mulberries can help to lower total overall cholesterol levels while elevating HDL levels, which are the “good” fats, thus lowering your risk of atherosclerosis, heart attack, stroke, and coronary heart disease, among others.
It is good to know that in traditional Chinese medicine, the mulberries are used to tonify the blood and treat constipation and diabetes.
An interesting fact is that mulberry tree was brought from China along with silkworm rearing, which loves mulberry leaves :-) Now mulberry is a very popular tree also outside Asia.
